Esther Adams is a dynamic Advanced Placement World History teacher. She works with her students to help them understand concepts in world history and identify larger trends across time periods. Esther wants her students to be able to think about all of the different societies and cultures that have shaped our world and how that impacts the way our world operates today. She wants them to think about the complexities of history and the different viewpoints that affect the way they understand and think about history. She is committed to helping her students become critical thinkers and writers. She is passionate about her work, and this shows in the classroom.

After graduating from the Curry School of Education with a Masters in Secondary Social Studies Education, Esther taught at an international school in Israel for two years. After that, she moved to the Washington DC area and has been teaching at Walter Johnson High School and positively affecting the lives of her students for the last five years. She recently joined the APWH Test Development Committee which designs the examination and represents the APWH program for the College Board. She also recently published an AP World History review book with her fellow APWH teachers at Walter Johnson. In her free time she spends time with friends and family, is studying French and will travel to Switzerland this summer to work as one of two Academic Deans for the TASIS Summer Program in Lugano, Switzerland.

Over the course of her career, Esther would like to continue to raise awareness about the importance of teaching global history and making sure that is not just “the winners who write history.”
