Born in 1958 and raised in Kansas City, Mo., Sandy Smith has spent most of his life following Samuel Johnson’s advice: “None but a blockhead ever wrote except for money.” First in journalism and later in media relations and marketing, Sandy has more than 25 years’ experience in media and communications, most of those years spent in academic public relations at the University of Pennsylvania and Widener University. He has been Senior Marketing Writer at Activant’s Wholesale Distribution Group in Yardley, Pa., since December 2007.

In addition to his work for Activant, Sandy continues to write freelance articles, essays, press releases and other promotional materials for newspapers, magazines, and private clients. His essays have appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia CityPaper, among other publications. He has also been Vice President of Marketing with the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, in which he sings second tenor, since September 2007.

Sandy graduated from Harvard University in 1982 with an A.B. in Government. He has lived in Philadelphia since 1983.
