William Malik founded Malik Consulting in 2005 after serving as Vice President of Technology Research at Aberdeen Group. His area of research was information technology infrastructure and security. He joined Aberdeen in August, 2004, after serving as Sun’s Director of Marketing for Security upon Sun’s acquisition of Waveset in December, 2003. In this role he lead strategic initiatives involving Privacy, Identity Management, and Information Security for Sun’s prospects, customers, partners, and Sun’s internal team. Prior to that acquisition, Bill had been Chief Technology Officer at Waveset Technologies. He participated in developing corporate strategy and product plans in light of key customer requirements and evolving technology trends. He has published articles on information security, audit and identity management in Computerworld, Secure Computing, and other trade publications. He led the strategy session at the national InfraGard Conference in Washington DC in June, 2003.
Prior to joining Waveset in 2002, Bill was a Senior Director in KPMG LLP’s Information Risk Management practice. Bill worked at Gartner, Inc from 1990 through 2001, most recently as a Vice President and Research Area Director. He authored over 150 research reports on information security, systems management, operating systems, middleware, disaster recover, data center best practices and the long range future of technology; developed and delivered numerous presentations on these and related topics world-wide; and managed both the Information Security Strategies service and the Application Integration and Middleware Strategies service. He participated in the development of the CobiT standard.
Entering Information Technology in 1974 as an applications developer at the John Hancock Insurance Co., Bill wrote COBOL payroll code and later worked as an MVS systems programmer. Bill joined IBM in 1978 and worked in Poughkeepsie and White Plains for 12 years. He played key roles in development, testing, business planning, and strategic planning for IBM’s high-end operating systems. Mr. Malik attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, majoring in mathematics.
